Josh, some great work on the renovation, it’s come up really nicely! It’s good to see you stressing the importance of not taking short cuts when it comes to prepping and removing wallpaper. It definitely does lead to more problems down the road when done incorrectly. However there is a caveat on that. If the wallpaper is in good condition and you have primed it properly, you can get away with painting over wallpaper. On a few jobs where the client has been on a tight budget, we have used an oil based primer to really seal the adhesive and keep then moisture from the paint away. Has worked well and we haven’t got any call backs. But I’d still agree with you and always push for stripping back wallpaper where possible. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure as the saying goes. Also, would love to see how your painted popcorn ceilings came up. We call it ‘vermiculite’. Its quite old school and we come across it in school jobs and old buildings occasionally. Jake Beals May 09, 2020

The house we’re working on is about 900 square feet. All in all it cost about $1300 to paint the entire place. The quote from our contractor was $2500 and that number didn’t include skim coating the dining room, which we ran into unexpectedly. So we saved over $1000 doing it ourselves, and our cost included a paint sprayer we purchased! Actually, let me break down all of the costs for you. (This is a rough breakdown, all numbers are rounded.)
Painters are not obligated to move furniture but most will do what’s needed to get the job done. It’s a good idea for you to move any valuable or delicate items yourself before a painter arrives, that way you will ensure that nothing gets damaged.
Painting is a convenient and affordable way to enhance your home. Whether you’re planning on painting the interior, exterior, or both, there are plenty of steps you need to take to prepare for the project. Often, it pays to knock out both projects at once. Many companies will paint both the interior and exterior of your home. On average, it costs between $10,300 to $16,750 to do both for the average 2,500 sq.ft. house.
In 2008, long-time DFW residents Karl and Marjorie Pickens noticed that other residential painting companies provided only a few options for homeowners other than the paint color. They opened Platinum Painting and have has served more than 10,000 clients in North Texas, including Arlington, making sure each one is completely satisfied in every way.
For example, a high gloss paint will highlight imperfections on the surface of older walls. Or, the wrong paint (and poor prep) on brick and ornamental trim can make the job take longer.
These guys just completed my exterior job. Would highly recommend. Every touch point with their team was positive. From the person who answers their phone, to the bidder Allegra, to the crew. They paid attention to detail and listened. They were helpful and patient navigating color selection. They were very responsive to any questions or concerns. Hell they even cleaned up when they left.
