Safety is key in any house painting project. Two- (or more) story homes can pose a safety risk for inexperienced DIY painters with inadequate tools to complete the painting work safely. A DIY paint project is no longer worthwhile if you accidentally topple off a ladder.
Old homes really need the expertise of a professional to get the best painted finish. Professional painters and painting companies not only understand the challenges of painting in older homes, they also understand how to problem solve when they are—inevitably—surprised by something they just haven’t seen before.

Another great tutorial. You guys really put out some great and helpful posts. I was especially happy to see that you kept the popcorn ceiling! I feel like there is so much pressure to get rid of your popcorn ceiling if you have it, but it is so expensive especially if you have asbestos. It is really such a minor thing I don’t think it should get as much flak as it does. Besides, I am convinced if I wait long enough, the popcorn ceilings will make a comeback;)
There are variables that could change the price of the above exterior hour painting such as repairs, extensive peeling paint, higher quality paint, and more, but this is a pretty good starting point. From there, you can select interior colors that provide a smooth transition as people walk through the front door. It’s important to think about the accents in and around your home, such as furniture, decorations, patio pieces, and more. Think about your front entry door, as this will be the focal point of your exterior. You can paint the inside and the outside of your front door indifferent colors. However, it is important to match it with the borders seen from either the inside or the outside. These features may seem small and insignificant on their own, but together they will either make or break the entire aesthetic of your home.

If painters charge hourly, speed will be an essential pricing factor. Most painters cover 80 to 120 square feet of flat surface per hour, or about the size of a small bedroom. This is after all the furniture is moved out and the prep work is completed. I ended up scraping off paint and wallpaper down to the plaster. It took a couple days to finish. I’m so glad they only did that in the one room! Again, moisture really helped in the process. The more I soaked the walls, the easier it was to scrape and remove the wallpaper and paint. After I had the entire room scraped down to the bare plaster walls, I realized I would have to repair some cracks and skim coat the entire room if there were going to be halfway decent looking walls.
To calculate the cost of an interior paint job that you do yourself, measure the square footage of the interior space you need to paint. Consider whether you will need primer or multiple coats to help with your color transition. If you’re just adding another layer of the same color of paint you used a few years back, you may be able to use a single coat and skip the primer.
I think just the idea of installing something more modern into a bathroom like led lighting is an awesome idea. There are more options when it comes to remodeling your home these days.
Nitin if we use PVC panels for walls…what is the cost raneg or PVC panels per sq ft. Secondly if we use PVC panels, then can we do that without plastering. So would these panels save the cost of both plastering and paneling?
After priming has been accomplished, removing old caulking is necessary that is showing separation on one edge if not both. If new caulk is covered up over old, which is showing separation, new long term caulk will not last near the warranty either. Best to use a razor knife, cutting old caulk out. Using a wet or damp cloth wiping new caulk bead, smooths edge, giving a nice transition at 90 degree angles from wood trim to siding.
