Preparations for a paint job generally include completing any repairs, pressure washing, sanding, and more. Cleanup costs will usually include the cost of clearing away any extra paint and garbage and properly disposing of everything at the landfill.
Did you know that the time of year you choose to paint the interior can have a drastic effect on the price of your job? If you want to save on paint costs, you may want to consider booking a time slot during the off-season.
A 2,000 sq.ft. home usually consists of two or three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, a dining room, and a kitchen, depending on the layout. If you live in a home this size, you can expect to pay between $6,000 to $8,000 to paint the interior and between $3,000 and $7,700 to paint the exterior. Painting the entire house from the inside out costs $9,000 to $15,700.
The average cost to paint the interior of a house falls between $1.50 and $3.50 per square foot. If you’re doing the ceilings, walls and trim, the cost per square foot will likely fall between $3 and $4. If there is damage to the walls that needs to be repaired before painting can proceed, you’ll pay extra. These are the average costs if you pay a service provider to paint your home for you. You may also choose to do the paint job yourself.
I agree completely — never paint over wallpaper! My house is very old and the original owners had wallpaper (layer upon layer) in every room in the house — even the bathrooms. Then the last owner painted over the wallpaper. Yikes! What a mess. So glad most of it is gone but it was a chore. Thanks for the great tips to painting the house. Quality tools are key (and patience). Skylar Mitchell February 25, 2015
When you hire a professional to paint your exterior walls, you may want to have them paint other parts of the house, too. You could save money by bundling all your painting jobs together instead of hiring a separate contractor for each one.
I have had my share of problems with touch up paints. After time the colors on the wall tend to fade and make using touch up paints difficult. If you have a similar problem doing touch ups on any wall, the best thing to do is just paint that wall with one quick coat. Most times I have had to paint the whole wall for touch ups unless the paint job was less than a year old. Another method I use for paint touch ups is to just lightly use the end of a brush with a small amount of paint and blend it in.
After getting 4 quotes from various painters/companies, I chose Wall Works. Why? Responsive with phone calls. Professional. Confident.
This painting company goes above and beyond any expectations. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
Lastly, if you do not have heavier equipment like ladders or extension poles, you should add $125 – $450 to the paint material costs above.
The average cost to paint a bedroom is $350 to $850, while a master bedroom runs $650 to $1,400. The DIY cost to paint bedroom walls is $100 to $300, which requires two gallons of paint. Cost To Paint A Bedroom Room Size Average Cost 10x10 $300 – $700 10x12 $350 – $850 12x12 $400 – $950 12x15 $500 – $1,000 14x16 $650 – $1,250 16x16 $750 – $1,400
Painting a brick house costs $1.50 to $4.50 per square foot or $2,600 to $7,700 for a 2,000 SF home. Mineral-based paints cost the most but last the longest and maintain the brick's breathability to prevent deterioration. Painting raw brick requires a primer coat. Brick staining costs $1 to $4 per square foot and changes the brick's color with dye while allowing it to remain breathable. The cost to brick a house is $8 to $18 per square foot for siding too damaged for painting.
