Awesome post! I just wanted to add a couple tips about cleaning brushes that might be helpful. If you’re painting and are coming back for second coats later the same day, you can put your brush in a ziplock bag to keep it from drying out while you’re taking a break. When cleaning your brushes, use Murphy Oil Soap, it really helps to get the paint off and is eco friendly. You can even soak brushes in it and clean them later on if you’re a giant procrastinator like I am 🙂 I love following your progress with this house and am so stoked to see the finished product! Cheers and have a great day! Alexandra February 25, 2015 Jill @ Champagne for Everyday February 25, 2015
Nearly every exterior painting job requires some kind of rotten wood repair. Rotten trim and siding are the most common we deal with. Persistent leaks and runoff causes wood to age rapidly, along with exposure to the sun. Large temperature swings also accelerate the process. We see it most often in trim around doors and windows, especially areas that are constantly damp or shaded.

The cost to repaint a whole house interior ranges from $1,000 to $7,500 depending on the size. Painting an entire 2,000 square foot house costs $1,600 to $5,600 on average. Prices fall on the higher-end of the range when also painting the ceilings, trim, doors, and baseboards. The next option was using oil based primer. That stuff is not fun to work with. The fumes are not fun to work around (be sure to open windows!), and you can’t wash it off without using more chemicals. Fortunately somebody suggested we try bleaching the stains, which sounded a bit more feasible and manageable. So we tried it. Dawning coveralls and face masks, and armed with a pump garden sprayer filled with diluted bleach (mostly water with a couple capfuls of bleach), we attacked the stains. After a couple spray downs, the yellow started to disappear! For a couple of days, we misted the ceiling, waited a couple hours and repeated. Most stains were taken care of, the rest were dissolved enough to prime over.
What ever colors you plan to use on your exterior, and they are different than the one's you currently have, it is a great idea to put a large 3' X 3' swath of paint color on the field portion, and other large sample on the trim. Reason for these larger samples is that our minds find it difficult imagining the entire exterior with new color scheme.
Painting vinyl siding costs $1 to $3 per square foot or $1,700 to $5,100 for a 2,000 SF home. Painting vinyl siding refreshes worn siding's appearance. Vinyl siding typically lasts up to 25 years or more but may fade sooner with extreme weather or sun exposure.
In other words, interior painting will take 3 – 5 days for a 1,500 – 2,000 square foot home. It could take just one or two days to complete interior painting in a small room.

Some hours are more difficult to paint than others. For instance, older, taller houses are delicate to paint, which is why it would be best to leave them to professional painters.
