Of course, exterior house painting requires a bit of work and significant investment. If you are hesitant regarding whether the value of applying a fresh coat of paint on your exterior home is worth the cost or not, the answer is: YES, it is.
Interior and exterior paints need to stand up to entirely different menaces. Paint on the interior of your home will need to be cleaned or even scrubbed. Exterior paints need to be resistant to weather and sun damage. Both exterior and interior paints are a combination of pigment, solvent, resins, and additives. The solvent in paint keeps it liquid and spreadable until it dries on your wall or trim. Latex painting dries more quickly because its solvent is water. The solvent in oil-based paints is mineral spirits, which takes more time to evaporate. Once the paint is applied, the solvent evaporates, and the resin allows the paint to adhere to the surface. Various additives in paint give it desirable characteristics, like moisture and scrub resistance.

However, any time my family does they DIY – and it’s always a much better, more creative job than when they pay someone!! The whole house is your canvas =) Gerilyn Larsen February 25, 2015

In both bedrooms there were holes knocked in the walls by the door handles (easily avoided with a $1 doorstop.) The holes were too big to patch with just spackle, so I got a couple of hole patches. They are sold near the spackles in your home improvement store. The directions are easy to follow, and they work! After paint, you wouldn’t know there once were big ol’ ugly holes. We used spackle to cover nail holes, minor cracks, and imperfections throughout the house. I tried a lot of different spackles in this house. My favorite one for minor repairs is Fast N Final. It applies easily, dries in a few minutes, and doesn’t require a whole lot of sanding.
Additionally, the neighborhood is home to a number of luxury apartment complexes, famously expensive multi-million dollar mansions, and is one of Chicago’s hottest real estate markets. A few of the neighborhood’s nicest areas include Sheffield, Park West, and DePaul.
I can walk across a side of the home and measure how many arm spans wide that side of the home is, then estimate how tall it is and get a surprisingly close guesstimate to the square footage of that side of the home.
Painting a stucco house costs $1.00 to $5.50 per square foot or $1,700 to $9,400 on average. The rougher the stucco texture, the more surface area and paint required. Stucco repairs cost $8 to $50 per square foot to fix cracks, holes, and chips before painting. The cost to re-stucco a house is $4 to $15 per square foot.
